    MAS 25 for Bluegrass?

Post by rvlowry on Thu Jul 24, 2014 2:31 pm

Will the MAS 25 be loud enough and provide the "thump" for bluegrass and traditional country in small to medium venues? I will usually be in the PA system also. I am looking for a lightweight, quality speaker cabinet. I play an American Standard with a K&K Bass Max and K&K Microphone using a K&K preamp/blender and a GK MB200. Thanks

The 25 is roughly the equivalent of 10" speaker. I use it for jazz duos and trios---but not a bashing trio.

I worry about it at "medium" venues. Maybe a 45 or 26 might be a better choice.

Thank you.  I appreciate your candor.  It may be my definition of "medium" is incorrect due to I was using a Fender Bassman 25 and it held its own with the PA assistance.  I also was considering a Wizzy 10 or AI 10in cabinet but really interested in your cabinets.  Again thank you.  Now have to get the funds and place the order. Just looked at the catalog on your website and did not see the MAS 26 listed. May I ask the weight, size dimensions, and price?

I've been using my 26 for bluegrass quartet-quintet gigs under wedding tents, and it's plenty loud enough, even without PA support. I usually send a line to the PA, but it's usually barely in the mains. I'm loving this cab, and my bandmates were impressed with how natural and clear it sounds.

    The MAS26 is 26" x 8 1/4" x 13 1/2" deep.  About 24#.$750

Goes about as loud as a good 12" cabinet.

BTW---what started me making cabs again was the Wizzy 10 and 12. I was an endorser for EA and loved the weight of the cabs but the sound was just too wanky for me. So I started making my own.

The MAS25 goes about as loud as a Wizzy 10.

The 26 goes a bit louder than a Wizzy 12. With a much stronger low end.

I personally think that the MAS-26 is your ticket. It's not much bigger in size or price than the 25 but packs a whole lot more punch.

I ordered the MAS 26 about 2 weeks ago. Now just have to wait. Patience has never been my strong point. Thanks to all who provided advice.

It has! Got it late Tuesday as I was walking out the door, late for appointment. Gone all day Wednesday and finally got to play through it Thursday. Great sound!! Put the cabinet in one room and I played my bass in another to isolate my bass sound from the cabinet sound. My wife said it sounded like my bass. That was my goal and it was exceeded. Mike, and all others who joined in, thanks for the recommendation and the superb cab. PS, initially connected the amp into one of the speakon connectors on the cab and "nothing". Panic and then thought maybe one is "in" and other "out". Changed it and "voila", it worked. Whoopeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Say goodbye to my other cabs.

I have a bluegrass band running 4 Gc25's and a pair of RachE 12's. These folks know how to thump it. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
