    Talkbass pettiness

Post by mikearnopol on Tue Apr 08, 2014 12:29 pm

The politics on TB are getting a bit more than annoying. I know that there are at least two speaker manufacturers that have moderator's ears and are very threatened by these cabs. One of them lost two sales to me recently and I've found out that he's been saying some nasty stuff behind my back. Mainly that the MVW technology is b.s. and doesn't work. He's never heard an MVW cab. I'm pretty sure that he's the one that got the thread shut down. He's touting his stuff all over TB and I've never said a word. Nor will I in the future. I refuse to get lured into that.

It's too bad that other manufacturers can't function more like Duke and I. We're competitors and spur each other on to improve our lines. If someone prefers another cab to mine rather than attacking the other manufacturer I think "ok--what is this cab doing where someone would prefer it?" That was the impetus for the Flex cabs. Rather than getting bummed that one guy liked Roger Baer's cabs it caused us to make a cab that would compete.

Sorry to hear that Mike.  Fortunately my new 46 sounds awesome! I guess I'm drinking the Kool-Aid.

    You got it already? Wow.

Man--I can't tell you how pleased I am with the new 46's. I'm making a 66 for myself (with wheels!)

No matter how careful one treads on talkbass eggshells, it seems inevitable that the politics there will crack one under your feet sooner or later.

Sorry to hear that a thread got shut down Mike. I tried to find the 'shut down' thread and didn't succeed. Does this mean that shut down threads are completely wiped off?

Oooo... you guys might need some Kool-Aid as well. You might also want to set a listening time limit, say; "no more than X hours and then we stop." Otherwise you may find yourself lost in the music... like that's a bad thing. I do apologize in advance for the ruination of some of your favorite tracks. I have a Kansas reunion tour DVD that sounded great on my studio monitors but on the MVW stuff I hear EVERY effect the engineers are triggering and the hard limiting is horrific. Others report similar experiences so again I apologize in advance. Twisted Evil

We are concerned about the difference in ohm load. If we're running two channels of the same amp are we gonna mess things up (the amp)?

You shouldn't if it's decent amplifier. If you're using a home receiver they don't like 4 ohm loads. I don't know for sure what those cabs are, Mike, Steve or Tom will have to chime in. If they're differing, you'll just need to adjust the balance because of output differences. Be prepared for some of your favorite tracks to sound like crap in comparison to others. If these are like my cabs, they're so revealing that you'll hear everything the engineer did, and if it's overproduced, you'll hear it.

Emotiva xpa-5. It should handle a 4 ohm load. It runs his 6 ohm Monitor Audio RS6s just great. 200W@8, 300@4...

You should be fine. Crank it up, enjoy, and report back. For best results position the loudspeakers in the same radiating plane. Do not point them towards or or away from each other.
